India has lifted half a billion people out of poverty over the past decade, a milestone highlighted by Al Jazeera. Yet the country’s Gini coefficient has risen, signaling deepening inequality that threatens to erode these gains.

Economic growth, driven by technology, manufacturing and urbanization, has expanded middle‑class incomes. However, the benefits have not been evenly distributed, with rural and marginalized communities lagging behind.

To sustain progress, policymakers must focus on inclusive reforms—improving education, healthcare, and digital access—while enforcing fair wages and strengthening social safety nets. Accountability for these measures will be key to ensuring that poverty reduction translates into genuine, equitable prosperity.
