Human Rights Watch and other civil‑rights organizations have filed a lawsuit against the former Trump administration, alleging it deliberately targeted the International Criminal Court (ICC) through policy and rhetoric that undermined the court’s authority and the global rule of law.

The suit claims the administration’s public statements and covert actions—such as pressuring member states to withdraw support—constitute a hostile campaign against an institution designed to hold powerful actors accountable for war crimes and human rights violations.

By challenging these actions, the plaintiffs seek to reaffirm the ICC’s legitimacy and protect the international community’s commitment to justice, sovereignty and reparations for victims of state‑level abuses.
